Collections
The collections at Bohusläns museum center around items, art, photographs and archive materials from the town museum founded in Uddevalla in 1861. The early collections mirror a fascination for the unusual and strange, mainly within the scientific field, that was typical to the time. These first collections also contain a number of items from cultures outside of Europe, coin collections and some artifacts of great interest to cultural history. The collections mainly grew through donations from the upper classes in Uddevalla.

Bohusläns museum opened in 1977, a county museum with a mission to mirror the art as well as the natural and cultural history of Bohuslän. The contents of its collections aim to expand and deepen the knowledge of the local character.
As county museum, Bohusläns museum has outlined several profile areas during the 21st century, where the position of the coastland and borderland in local history are to be especially noted.
